Our Salon Concert Initiative

Today, Salon Concerts are defined as live performances of serious art music in private residences for an exclusive, host-invited audience. They are "chamber music" in the purest sense, featuring small ensembles in a more intimate setting than the concert hall. Duo Sequenza is making a limited number of bookings of Salon Concerts available for the coming season!

  • You and your friends will enjoy a world-class performance in the comfort and convenience of your own home.

  • As a "classical music" lover, you'll have the unique opportunity to personally help develop new audience members!

  • You welcome the opportunity to work closely with the artists to design a concert program of your musical choices.

  • You want to provide fiscal support to serious art musicians and see this as a way to achieve that while being well-appreciated by your guests.

  • You know the value of networking and relationship building.

  • Hosting "the social event of the season" holds great appeal to you!

  • You have a lovely space in your home that simply cries out for chamber music.

  • You would enjoy an entirely different "up close and personal" concert experience.

  • We will be able to deliver our music to an appreciative audience without the overhead of concert venue production costs.

  • We will be performing for several people who may think they don't like "classical music."  We can change their minds!

  • We welcome the opportunity to hear your musical ideas, giving us a fresh, new perspective on our pieces.

  • We need an additional revenue stream to succeed in our mission to bring serious art music to new audiences and create more stakeholders for classical music.

  • We know the value of networking and relationship building.

  • We crave a closer connection to our listeners!

  • We are able to present our music in virtually any indoor space -- no piano required!

  • We would enjoy a performance with out the heat and glare of the stage lighting!

Why Would I Host One?

Why Would You Play One?

A History Lesson

The salon was an invited gathering of people to the home of an inspiring host held for the purpose of amusing one another, as well as to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of its participants through stimulating conversation.Commonly associated with the French literary and philosophical movements of the 17th and 18th centuries, salons were an Italian invention of the 1600s. They flourished in France in the 17th and 18th centuries, and continued to thrive in Italy throughout the 19th century as an important place for the exchange of intellectual ideas. The word salon first appeared in France in 1664 (from the Italian word salone, itself from sala, the large reception hall of Italian mansions).  For the aristocracy of 19th-century European cultural capitals, such as Paris and Vienna, salon concerts were the preferred setting for artists such as Chopin to make a personal connection with the audience, without the critics' watching eyes. Salon concerts expanded all over Europe, becoming the preferred Sunday activity for the friends and families of artists such as Mendelssohn and Liszt. They were often a place to explore new music, especially music on the lighter or more romantic side, which actually became known as "salon music."
